Students in Taloyoak, NU will learn more about creating a healthy environment, thanks to the Greener Tomorrow Program.

Taloyoak Northern Store employees were thrilled to present a $10,000 Greener Tomorrow fund distribution to Gina Pizzo, the principal of Netsilik School. The distribution will be used to fund an Environmental Camp where students will learn about the importance of protecting the environment. The grant will also be used to construct a new school greenhouse which will be used for growing healthy food within the community.

“I believe this is a great program,” said Gina Pizzo. “It’s a good way to be giving back to the community for a good cause.”

The Greener Tomorrow program was launched in 2011 to reduce the use of plastic bags in the North for a healthier and cleaner environment. Stores that participate in the program charge a small fee for each non-reusable plastic bag, and 100% of the proceeds are then given back to the community for social and environmental projects.
